Colours of Modern Living is a parody of colour swatches. It compares the strict, systematic definitions of colour to the personal and emotional responses colour can elicit within us. In this swatch colours are organised using ‘the Nicholson Method’. This involved me cataloguing actions or items common in my everyday life, and identifying which colours I would associate with them. This extremely personal and perfectly biased method is intended to be virtually useless in actually selecting colours. It instead aims to showcase the subjective experience of colour, by displaying extremely personal and specific colour associations.
