Word as Image

Through their design, letter forms can be highly expressive. With any number of visual effects that can be incorporated into their forms. Borders, patterns, or stylistic swirls that can delight the eye at the potential cost of the typeface’s legibility. This project was an experiment to use digital effects to draw out the expressive potential of letterforms. Using generative code, simple effects and animations are applied to nonsense words. Distorting the original letters beyond recognition to maximise their aesthetic impact.
